Steve McCurry graduated from College of Arts and Architecture at the Pennsylvania State University. He then worked at a newspaper for two years; after that he went to india and he worked freelance. It was in india that Steve discovered how to wait on life. He said "If you wait, people will forget your camera and the soul will drift up into view." this is what he tries to capture in his images.
Steve McCurry is a well know portrait and documentary photographer. I find his photos interesting. He describes his work as; “Most of my images are grounded in people. I look for the unguarded moment, the essential soul peeking out, experience etched on a person’s face. I try to convey what it is like to be that person, a person caught in a broader landscape, that you could call the human condition.”. I really like the way that he uses silhouettes to mask the persons identity however due to the landscape or setting they are in; the tile and name of the album you are able to glean things about there personality and life.

This Image is from Steve McCurry's Solitude album; and the subject is in the Hindukush Mountains, Afghanistan. I like the way that this image is lit and the way the shadow highlights the person in the middle. the image shows how desolate the location is due to the isolation of the person at the centre.
This image is from Steve McCurry's Silence album; and the subject is Costa Rica. This image is similar of that of Joseph McKenzie's Tolsta head - Outer Hebrides - 1948. I really like the way that the man in the image has his identy kept from us. yet due to the background, tile and the name of the subject we are able glean things about his life and personality.
This image is form Steve McCurry's Lost in thought; and the subject is canada. I really like the colours present in the sky and how, due to the sun being above the subject and the camera behind him, the shadow that is cast masks his identiy. yet due to his clothes, the tile of the image and the name of the album it is from we are able to glean information about his life and personality.
